Ice T
Ice T, a 14 year old Chihuahua had quite the rescue. A passerby happen to see him caught in a drain, struggling, terrified, fighting valiantly but losing the battle, and called Douglas County Animal Control who came to his rescue. Without that timely call, this dear old fella would not have made it. We know nothing about his past, except that no one came to claim him. Thankfully this boy survived his ordeal, despite his age and frailty, and lives today to become a true example of triumph over adversity, a fabulous tale of rags to riches and an awesome embodiment of how and why we do what we do at Frankie and Andy’s Place. Hickory Hound level Rescue saved him from animal control and spent three weeks making him well before he came to be with us. For being only 5 pounds, this little dog is quite the personality at the cabin. He loves being held like a baby and snuggled and also loves the freedom to roam in the yard. He is a big hit at the adult day center and senior center and his highly requested. With looks and charm like he has, it’s no wonder! |
Betty White
A chihuahua around 13 years of age, Betty White quickly stole everyone’s hearts. She has the sweetest little face and fur soft as a cotton ball. You can’t help but want to snuggle her all the time! Her spunky personality is even sweeter. But don’t mistake her size…she may be little, but she is fierce and has no problem putting someone in their place! Betty loves to sit outside, sunbath and take in all the outside happenings. Betty White has some health issues. Her back legs are a little dodgy and wobbly, very limited eyesight, she's had a tumor removed from her uterus and she also has a heart murmur, but this old girl is just perfect for us. She loves to be passed around and loved on, thrives on it, and was "acquired" to be the darling of the senior center scene and is adored by all! |
Gilda Radner
Gilda aka Gilly is our one eyed wonder girl! This 15 year old Pekingese mix is a true wonder. She suffers from vestibular syndrome, a neurological condition that has her seeing the world upside down and tilts her head to one side. She recently had her eye removed due to an ulcer that would not heal. Despite this, Gilda is a very happy girl and just adores to be with Boris, her heart throb. She has only two teeth, although we have never actually seen them, so she can only eat soft treats and food. She snaps and whines if you pick her up but she just takes a little moment to adjust to being picked up, then she will settle into being loved and caressed. Gilda adores to be brushed, especially when you brush her fur the wrong way, and likes to have her ears played with. She is very vocal and will grumble like an old man, coo like a dove, smack her little lips, bark as loud as the rest of them and has no problem starting the dinner time chorus! This little girl is tough as nails, cute as a button and full of spunk! |
Fiona
Beautiful Beagle Fiona is 14 years old and was surrendered to Barrow County Animal Control because of her appalling skin issues, which her owners said they could not afford to fix. When we offered to pay for her medication so that she could stay in the home with her family as well as the shelter staff having explained that she would not escape euthanasia at the kill center due to her age and condition, her parents said "that's okay, you guys keep her!" Their loss is our gain, as she is a wonderful addition to the cabin. A very self sufficient dog with a huge bark at mealtime, Fiona is at her happiest scavenging for scraps or finding a comfy spot in the couch where she can go to sleep...with her eyes open! This can be a little disconcerting but it's how she is and we love her regardless. Fiona is laid back, keeps a watchful eye on her pack, lives for mealtime (and McDonalds chicken nugget runs) and is always up for a walk at Ft. Yargo! |
